Michael Jackson-
'Invincible' (Epic/Sony)
Michael Jackson is as
invincible as his nose...not at all invinvcible then. It pains me to say it but
this album is gonna flop. Dare we say it? The King of Pop is dead?
To me all his songs soing
the same now. The same manufactured beats and his wierd sounds over and over
again. You can hardly hear his voice over the drums and electric keyboards. I
wonder how much of that is intentional, could it be that he is losing his voice?
His first single, You Rock
My World, fell way short of expectation after all the hype. It was mentioned
that the music video cost $3 million to make! Where did all that money go? It
certainly didnt go on the music. Despite the presence of comic Chris Tucker and
actor Marlon Brando the video seemed mundane mainly because it lacked
originality and the face of Michael.
Money seems no object to
Michael, after spending $30 million on making this album he still went and spent
$3 million on the music video. Epic and Sony must believe in their asset if they
are willing to spend that much money on the making of the album. I suppose
Michael Jackson's reputation is so big that it will easily make its producing
costs.
Michael did use a diverse
group of producers and writers on this project. Big names like Rodney Jerkins,
Babyface, Teddy Riley, R. Kelly and Dr. Freeze and guests appearances by the
famously deceased Notorious B.I.G and alive and well Brandy and Carlos
Santana.
The big R&B names fail
to bring any conviction to this album. The only songs worth noting on this album
are ballads Break Of Dawn, Heaven Can Wait, Butterflies, Whatever Happens and
Speechless. I've just mentioned five songs there, i suppose thats good enough to
buy the album but you somehow expect a little more than what Michael has put
togther there.
