  Eric Clapton - 'Reptile' (WEA)

Eric Clapton seems confused as to where his musical niche lies.
This is an average album for the him as he tries to make the blues more acceptable for the main stream public.

I've had 'Reptile' for a few days now and have given it a thorough workout. I've always been a major fan of Eric Clapton. But, his studio albums, to me, never seem to capture his musicianship (with the exception of From the Cradle). I think he's best seen live to understand how great he really is. Having said that, 'Reptile' is what we expect from him, a good contribution to his type of music.

I've always thought that when I listen to 'From the Cradle', that Eric Clapton was oversinging, trying too hard to sound like a 70 year old blues singer. 'Reptile' has one of his best vocal performances. And that I think is the strenght of this album. There's a gem or two of guitar playing in there, however that peerless guitar it is all too brief.

Its sad to say but the songs on this album are weak and forgettable.
