Planet of the Apes (2001)

Tim Burton

Rule the Planet
Firstly, lets get this straight, this is not a remaking of 'Planet of the Apes' but a re-imaging of it. This means the theme will be the same, a planet full of talking apes but everything else is totally different.

Why they want to call it 'Planet of the Apes' if there is no Nova, no Zera, no Cornelius and the plot is completley different? The studios want to make money on the success of the original movies but as soon as people find out that this movie is nothing to do with the original they will stay away from it.

A good film even though it struggles to hold your attention for long. Its worth going to see for Tim Roth's acting alone.
Overall Rating:

In my opinion that classics such as Planet of the Apes should be left alone. But as a lover of movies i am intrigued by what Tim Burton has done. There is a fierce debate in Hollywood at the moment as to how commercially viable Tim Burton is as a director. Batman and Batman returns were the two best film in the series of four. He did an amazing job at creating Gotham and really bringing the characters from the comics alive on screen. He makes up with a good visual eye what he lacks in storytelling.

What has let him down recently were films like Mars Attacks and Sleepy Hollow with its ridiculous characters and situations. It seems he is trying to be a character from the last good film he made, Ed Wood.

Seeing Helena Bonham-Carter in a monkey suit is worth waiting for. Although i can say that the promise of inter-species love was a vicious rumour.
